Time flies

For the last three or four days, I’ve been hemming and hawing about posting about the WS champion Brewers. I hope to finally articulate my feelings and present something slightly original. That’s tough when everyone seems to be sharing their thoughts. mostly regurgitated without crediting original sources.

All of that take a back seat today and not for the Bears-Seahawks tilt on MNF. I’ll leave that game to someone else. 11/2/26 marks the 10th anniversary of the Cubs finally winning the World Series. Back then we (being Cub fans) believed it marked the first step of a dynasty. I’ve been considering the idea that most teams probably think they can win the following year-regardless of what the media believes. In the last half century, I think only the ’98 and ’04 Marlins didn’t think they had a chance of repeating. I haven’t had the chance to discuss the topic with anyone from the ’74-75 A’s. Even the economically challenged Brewers expect to contend if not repeat next season.

Every Cub fan of a certain age will remember 11/2/16 and where they were-even if they weren’t watching Game 7. There are no guarantees in sports and as I was recently reminded. cherish that one title. While playing in three straight league championship series is nice, it’s not the same as winning multiple titles or playing in three straight series. The facts get a little hazy after ten years, most fans have already forgotten that there were a handful of players that positively impacted the team early in the season who didn’t even make the postseason roster(s). That’s the case with 98.6% of WS winners.

While most everybody is focusing on Sam Darnold in Chicago, I’m going to bask in the glow of the ’16 Cubs. To each his own.
