I hate to come back to this argument but recent news requires that I beat the drum again. As painful as it may be to look beyond your favorite team, it’s that point in the MLB season where you have to look at what other teams are doing.

37 minutes ago, the Boston Red Sox were the worst team in baseball and completely out of the postseason chase. They were so horrible that they fired a WS champion manager in Alex Cora and replaced him with Chad Tracy. Everyone seemed to be for sale and several teams were in the market for their top players.

Almost as if to spite everyone else they won 14 straight games and are in the hunt. They happened to wipe out the Rays and Yankees along the way. Now those same buyers are going to have to look elsewhere for talent. It’s fun trying to guess what other team is going to fall out of contention. It’s also a kick to figure out what puzzle pieces fit best on one’s favorite team.

Heading into the trade deadline, we all put on our GM hats and offer up the wildest of trade scenarios and rarely have to suffer the scorn of other fans unless we opine on social media.
