In case you missed last night’s big All-Star Game rosters, I’ve linked to the mlb.com article detailing the picks and snubs. For the next week or so, everyone will be opining about who should have made or not made the rosters. I think ASG roster snubs is one of the healthier debates out there.
While I’m willing to admit I don’t have solutions percolating in my brain right now, my excitement for the 26 first timers and their families. And as I have said many times before, I think players should be representing their teams based on this first half and shouldn’t be rewarded for stellar careers. Some of these guys won’t sniff another ASG and that’s okay too.Full All-Star rosters unveiled, including 26 first-timers
For the first time in years, I don’t feel the Cubs are either misrepresented or underrepresented by the selections. Pete Crow-Armstrong is the only Cub that deserves to be playing at Citizen’s Bank. Conversely, I think the White Sox got hosed and hope that someone like Davis Martin will join Miguel Vargas.
A few weeks ago, I planned on writing about Andy Pages but kept my thoughts to myself because there are enough LA writers gushing over him. That being said, he is well deserving of earning the starting nod. Nationally, he’s probably best known for his ’25 WS defense. Who knows what trajectory his career is on, but the dude is a solid ballplayer (which I loath to admit).
Like every fan, I have my favorites which doesn’t mean I can’t offer an objective take on their performance. Nico Hoerner is my favorite current Cub and is having a lousy offensive season (.241). Whether he’s trying to live up to the contract he signed this Winter or he’s just experiencing a bump in the road (I hope), I still root for him and enjoy his unique skill set.
I’d much rather listen to the cases fans make for their favorite players than arguments for who is the best QB in the NFC North.
