The Cubs have just won their 9th straight game which includes a perfect 7-0 homestand with sweeps of the Mets and Phillies. I’ve already expressed my dislike for the Metropolitans, but haven’t written (lately) about my four-year sentence in the City of Brotherly Indifference. Listening to and watching the Cubs slap around the Phillies almost made up for what Mike Schmidt did to the Cubs for years.
Even the White Sox have been playing better, newsworthy baseball recently and while I’m hardly an advocate, I’d rather listen to their fans discuss the ups and downs. Fans on both sides of town have been waiting for positives to talk about even if some wonder if it’s short lived.
Instead, moments from now everyone will be inundated by all things NFL draft. I hope some of the cities with both NFL and MLB franchises might strike a better balance than in Chicago. All of the sports talkers and members of “print media’ will devote their full undivided attention to some guys that may make a difference 6 months from now. 112% of the experts will spend weeks arguing both sides of each pick without any legitimate idea of what’s going to happen. Without fail, 214% of the folks will believe they have a unique take or spin, not realizing the NFL offseason is the season of parroting.
Ordinarily Chicago teams take advantage of NFL news to hide their flaws or failures. By the time I finish typing this post, everyone will have forgotten that Bulls ownership has absolutely no idea what they are doing.
