Kind of big news…

As has been pointed out in the attached article, Marcus Stroman had already opted out of participating in next week’s ASG in Seattle. Everything he says makes complete sense and is what you’d like to hear from any professional athlete making a bundle of doremi. I’m sure some fans will be disappointed to read the news.

Even though his last few starts haven’t been worthy of an ASG start, he deserved to play in the game and rep the woeful Cubs. Every single time the guy has opened his mouth this season, he’s gone out of his way to thank everyone in the organization (by name) for helping him reach a level of success. He’s been the ultimate teammate and his desire to get ready for the second half is admirable to say the least. It also allows some poor schulb to make the team. And as I’ve stated many time, the rosters won’t resemble a true AS team by Monday. It’s like the annual NFL ProBowl where the 7th and 8th QBs eventually make the roster.

Nobody is going to mention this-so check out the paragraph on the Dansby Swanson injury. Apparently, he hurt his ankle while stepping on first base. Hmmmmmm, weren’t the larger bases supposed to prevent injuries-that never occurred because of the size of the bases?

That my friends was pure flummery!

I’m sharing the Stroman story because I actually heard somebody complaining that he wouldn’t be making the trip west.

  1. The bigger bases were supposed to prevent injuries but players are still get hurt which is a shame. On a different note, Stroman not pitching in the All Star Game is a huge deal. He is a great pitcher! He should want to pitch in the All Star Game! Shocking news!!

    • I appreciate your perspective as a younger fan. I think he understands his responsibility, but from his other interviews I think he sees his greater responsibility to the team and the second half. I think that is the conundrum. In the past, most players opting out of the game/weekend don’t discuss it-they just opt out-same with the NFL. I prefer seeing the players who are having the best seasons to that point in time playing against the best in the other league.

I assume you’ll be pulling for the NL and Castellanos. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!
