Media bias exists in most cities with professional sports teams, and I’m here not to apologize for the media bias in favor of my Cubs. I’ve done nothing wrong and for the most part, neither have the Cubs. The Cubs do receive much more attention when compared to the White Sox. However, the disparity in coverage isn’t as glaring as what happens between east coast teams and the rest of the country, but it still exists.
Yesterday morning I bought my first preseason publication of the year, USA Today Sports: Special Edition. The Cubs Preview 26 with Alex Bregman on the cover was the only publication on the stand. There was no indication that an alternate Sox version is out there. For years, cities with two teams, baseball publications would publish issues with multiple covers if not team-specific issues. I’m all about the Cubs but, I’m curious to see what the reporters and writers think about the 2026 Sox. I also know Sox fans will deem this a major slight.
Without embarking on a critique of the content, I’ll add that I love all of the coverage of newest Cub heartthrob, Bregman, aka The Bregmonster, Breggerman, Alex the Great. I do worry about the over-the-top love though.
