With the odd gap week between rounds of the CFP and first NFL playoff games, some would consider this an inopportune time for MLB teams to make big news. Yet. there are rumblings that the Red Sox might make a move on Alex Bregman at their fanfest.
Regardless of what happens in tonight’s Packers-Bears game, the Cubs will hold their convention this next weekend. Of course, they’ll be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2016 WS Championship with several heroes coming to town. Will they make another big trade or sign a key free agent? Usually, teams like to bring their newest shiny toys to fan fests, but one never knows with the Cubs.
2016 seems like two decades ago since they haven’t had the sustained success that was promised. It will be nice to hear from some of the guys that evaporated into the ether. Even the secondary and tertiary contributors sold a lot of jerseys back in the day and with any winning team, some of them left their mark on thousands of fans.
It’s always fun to see which random guys from various eras attend-especially those who were not members of championship (or good) teams. Abstractly, I’m glad to see a handful of players of my youth will be attending even if I never make it downtown.
Maybe a national writer will tally up the teams that make a key addition during their fanfests.
