Even if the end result of the 2025 World Series appeared to be inevitable, it riveted the continent for 10 days or so. I can’t imagine that Canadians have spent more time in front of the television in the past decade.
It seems that most sports fans have already shifted their attention to the NFL, NBA and college sports, but for folks like me, there is plenty of baseball to discuss and argue about. I’ve already heard some people debating where this Series ranked among the greats and if individual performances were the best of all times. It’s okay to have different opinions on any of these subjects-even if only in neighborhood bars.
After considering what transpired in Game 7 and Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s spectacular postseason, I wonder if Dave Roberts was toying with the Jays and everyone watching, the way a cat does when snaring a mouse before killing it. Did he ever consider starting Yamamoto in games 1-4 and ending it all there? Did the guy ever sweat?
While it’s all second-guessing now, it’s still fun to debate in-game decisions that both managers made, somehow believing that we could alter the final outcome. It’s no less a valid exercise than believing one’s general managing of a fantasy football roster has anything to do with generally managing or coaching an NFL team.
