I’m of the age and at the point in my sports fandom where I’m always associating current players with the athletes of my youth and it doesn’t start with the comps on Baseball Reference.

That’s why when the Cleveland Browns named their Week 5 starting quarterback, I didn’t do any research or check out his CV because none of it matters to me. However. I got to thinking about his name and not whether he was named for former running back Corey Dillon, musician/poet, Bob Dylan or Gunsmoke protagonist, Matt Dillon, but rather his last name, Gabriel. A quarterback from my youth, Roman Gabriel immediately sprang to mind. Listening to the betting experts, I’m certain they aren’t making the comparisons.

I know at least one Rams fan out there has been thinking about Roman and whether Dillon will achieve his success.
