Forget the fact that the Cubs and Brewers have a history and that the Cubs edged the Crew in their season series 7-6, as the Brewers won the division. Both team and managers know each other like brothers, even more than Ben Johnson thought he knew the Lions offense.
People without a horse in the race have long debated whether the team coming off a six or seven day break has the advantage over the team that just won a play-in series. Teams don’t take vacations between postseason series, rather they conduct a series of workouts and intersquad games, but is that enough to remain sharp? That’s the question of the 21st century. I’ve heard that folks with a vested interest feel that the team with the time off is playing at a disadvantage.
I don’t think there is empirical evidence supporting either side of the argument, but that doesn’t mean those in the media won’t be making the case for both sides.
After missing out on a second round of games in Cleveland, I pulled by best Wes Unseld imitation and pivoted, securing a ticket for Saturday’s game in Milwaukee.
Enjoy the day off today as it’s going to get hot and heavy.
