I only learned that tomorrow evening (Friday) the NFL will dominate with a game between the Chargers and Chiefs on YouTube. I should say, continue their media dominance as it will mark the second national game of the week. Everyone and anyone who isn’t in New York for the U.S Open will be watching the Cowboys and Eagles on Peacock/NBC. It used to be that the NFL on TV was limited to Thursday, Monday, and Sunday nights for the most part. Friday nights and the occasional Sunday morning have become the domain of the NFL because fans are clamoring for it and sponsors are willing to ante up. It’s funny because I have a vested interest in the first two games and Monday night’s game, but because I work all three nights, I won’t be able to watch any of he games, nor would I ever stay up to fast forward through the highlights.
Trying to figure out which of the major channels and streaming services are broadcasting your teams’ games is more difficult than figuring whether you should order your Italian beef, wet or dry, or with sweet or hot peppers.
At least the schedule makers got this first weekend right for the most part. Eight of the first games are between division rivals and a couple others are quirky match-ups like the Brady Raiders v. Patriots.
Because I don’t memorize the schedules from previous seasons, I had forgotten that the Bears spent the first month of 2024 playing the AFC South instead of anyone from the NFC North.
For those of you who have already passed on the ’25 MLB season in favor of the NFL, enjoy!
