You know the rest of this ditty and yes, I’m being snarky. I was unable to post before the game because I had to work. I was going to post that the Cubs had to whomp on the hapless, over loved Reds this week (including today).
Even as they headed into the bottom of the 9th down by a run, I had faint hope and not because I have undying faith in the Cubs. Rather, I’ve seen the Reds fold like tents before. After their victory in the bottom of the ninth yesterday, we’re supposed to believe they’re onto something. Newsflash, they aren’t the second-best team in baseball no matter what the smart guys say.
At some point the several and various MVP candidates have to play like they aren’t listening to all the hype. Before they catch the Brewers and win the division, they have to pound the Reds, Cardinals and Pirates into oblivion. They barely escaped with a series win over the Orioles and while the commissioner doesn’t get it, division games and rivalries do matter, in the fans’ world and the standings.
