In less than an hour I’ll be driving down 55 to see the Cubs play the Cards in Busch Stadium, and instead of seeing the Cubs take the four-game series with an easy win, I hope to see them win for the first time in four days. STL has completely clobbered the Cubs.
More important that the humiliating losses the Cubs have accumulated like Walgreen’s points is the fact that both the Brewers and Cardinals are inching closer to the Cubs in the standings. Months ago, the local pundits said that 90 wins in the NL Central should be good enough. The Cubs are no longer master of run prevention, but rather they can’t get out of the way of other team’s power bursts.
Based on this years’ experience the Cubs should have the edge in the Matthew Boyd–Eric Fedde tilt, but I’m not holding my breath.
