Of course, it’s exciting that Yankees-Red Sox own this weekend with a Fox broadcast Saturday and ESPN game tonight, but believe it or not (nod to Jack Palance), there is great baseball being played elsewhere. Two of the series are being held in the Midwest. Featuring teams with outstanding records in the Cubs and Tigers, Comerica has been rocking for games 1 and 2. The Cardinals are hosting the Dodgers in a mid-season tussle of small v large market.
Nobody outside of Downers Grove is billing the White Sox v, Royals as anything more than AL Central battle in early June, yet the Sox could sweep the Royals with a win today. I don’t think they are playing more inspired ball because of the recent ownership news because the most recent news that Justin Ishbia & family might take over ownership in either 2029 or 2034 doesn’t make any more sense after some good reporting.
I haven’t discussed the news with one longtime Sox fan friend because he dismisses everything about the Sox with disdain and a shrug. It’ s not a matter of healthy skepticism, but rather an aspect of his overall conspiracy theories. Whenever a team that he doesn’t like wins it all, he truly believes that the league deigned for it to happen.
I’m not sure if it’s merely Sox fatalistic nature, but he doesn’t really believe the 2025 Sox are better than last season’s version. He’s obviously not paying attention to the 2025 Rockies who look to be on the path of minimizing the Sox accomplishment with an even worse record.
While I’m not rooting for the Cardinals and I have an interest in the Cubs series, and maybe both series wouldn’t attract the eyeballs of a Boston-NY series, I’d rather ESPN bring their cameras to the areas around Commerica and Busch II. Having been in both cities for playoff games in the past, I know that the larger baseball world is missing out in some Midwest magic.
