My friend, Steve Comma (short for the Sox fan) has had to listen to my gripes about how writers randomly select the former teams they cite when a player is released, traded, or tossed in the recycling bin. 112% of the time, a player’s former team never posts about the move unless, that team was his most recent.
Case in point, 420-yea-old reliever, Jesse Chavez was just relieved of his duties with the Rangers. Yet, they say “former Cub” released by Rangers. Another story correctly says that he is signing a minor league contract with the Braves, a team that he has pitched for on four different occasions.
When I first saw the article, I thought they might have been talking about Carl Edwards Jr, another former Cub. Incidentally, Chavez has pitched for 9 different ML teams in his career.
It would be funny if someone with the time and energy, listed every former ML’er to have been given the heave-ho and all of the teams they played for, or go through every team and list all of the guys that played for them and were recently cast aside.
