Despite spending two decades with a band of gypsies, I swear I don’t possess any supernatural powers, nor do I believe in conventional baseball jinxes. Talking about an in-progress no-hitter isn’t why the guy falls short. I do believe that some guys are doomed though.
A couple baseball loving friends have to deal with my near obsession with injury reports and preseason roster moves and fake rumors. I realize 110% of bloggers have zero insight into roster construction and potential trades and only the better- and well-connected beat reporters and (team) broadcasters have any idea what’s really going on.
Yet, from everything I’ve read and heard this winter, very few pitchers have gone under the knife so far. Forgetting half of the Dodgers’ pitching staff and Gerritt Cole, it seems like fewer pitchers will be out for the season. The Dodgers have some pretty frail (read unavailable) guys on their staff that they shouldn’t be relying on anyways.
Having just typed this, I fully expect a handful of pitchers to head to the surgeon’s table and you can blame me for putting on the kibosh. It does seem as if an inordinate number of position players are being felled like trees. It’s almost as if the guys and gals making roster decisions don’t look at guys’ medical histories when signing them to big deals.
