I get how professional athletes will do most anything to supplement their paltry salaries, but sometimes they should just say, No!
I know professional athletes share their thoughts and opinions with radio stations across the country, but the mopes bloviating in Chicago are among the worst. I also get why stations want every moron providing controversial statements, off-color stories and juicy tidbits to stir things up. Every once in a great while they find somebody with a trace of charisma, but more often than not they miss the mark like a Gary Huff pass.
Currently, a handful of Bears players contribute to one local radio station. I don’t listen because what they have to say doesn’t interest me, but I’m aware of the content. Usually, the hosts try and stir things up trying to get them to say something provocative. Again, I’m in favor of interviews and asking meaningful questions, but not hiring these guys for weekly appearances.
Lest anyone think I’m picking on the Bears or football, I’m not. The same station has to current Cubs on with different hosts and even though I like one of the players, I don’t bother for the same reason.
It maters now because various Bears have spoken up about the current coaching situation and effort and it’s all a load of hooey. I’m being charitable as many of these same “brave players” have been embarrassing to say the least.
For the record, none of these guys have won spit, unlike the 85 Bears. A poor analogy, but one local fans will understand. There’s a lot of smack being talked by a bunch of losers. Incidentally, none of the Cubs have won anything either. Who cares about what coffee they drink or sell?
And I am Len O’Connor.
