By suggesting that both Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge are in World Series slumps might serve as an impetus for their turnarounds. Against all the MLB holds dear, the two have underperformed in the first two games of the 2024 and yet, the games continue.
If you bought into the pre-Series hype, this battle between the titans was going to put baseball back on the map for four or five minutes. If you read anything that isn’t MLB generated, you might come away with a different opinion of the Series to date.
I’ve read several well written opinion pieces saying that the $650 million spent on salaries for the two teams isn’t the best thing for the game. I’m of the belief that there’s room for fans of all sorts on the baseball bandwagon. Because your small market (cheap) team doesn’t spend on talent doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a series between big spenders. It also doesn’t mean you can’t check out this year.
Without jumping the gun, I don’t think the game will suffer if Ohtani and or Judge fizzle. As their teams’ most dangerous hitters it’s no surprise that neither guy has seen or will see a lot of great pitches. Some teams refuse to let that guy beat us.
Some of the better series are those with surprise heroes in the biggest moments.
