In an effort to hype a match that doesn’t need anything from the voices calling the game. As someone noted in the intro to the Phillies-Mets game, the cities are only separated by 115 miles and have played in the NL East since 1969, little else needs to be said about the series.
Given the recent run the Mets went on to get to Game 1 of the LDS, it’s worth noting the specifics. However, New York isn’t a small market city, nor a low payroll team. So, when FOX broadcaster, Adan Amin stated the wins over Atlanta and Milwaukee were the biggest in the team’s history, I cringed. The Miracle Mets of 1969 were far bigger given the circumstances and expectations. Somewhat younger Met fans might argue that the 1986 WS victory over the BucknerSox was equally as big.
Let’s not compare wild card games with actual World Series wins.
