Opening day is always a hoot, new beginnings, fresh starts and hope springing eternal. It’s the second game that’s more telling as some teams make changes in their lineups and we get to see more players. In some cases, it’s an indication of platoons while some managers want to get everyone involved early.
Obviously, it’s way too early to jump to any conclusions and sell off your season tickets, but overreacting is what we do best. Unfortunately, we’ve already lost a few players to major injuries so it’s never too early to worry about depth.
Several new acquisitions have already made positive impacts, and unfortunately the Dodgers top of the lineup appears to be as potent as expected. Lost in all of the hoopla of the red carpets, fly over’s and celebrities, the scene outside of the stadium in Oakland was the most meaningful. The A’s have schmutzed all over their fans for year, and a number of fan groups staged a boycott before the game. At looked as if the team complied as they got Biebered by Cleveland in am 8-0 loss.
It has been fun watching Rhys Hoskins give the stink eye to the Mets and their adoring fans.
