Not even the great betting mavens can predict when an ace will have an off day during the postseason, nor can they foresee a great offensive outburst from some career backup infielder. Stuff happens in baseball that nobody predicts, but the better managers put their teams in the best position to succeed.
Certain managers have a knack for making the wrong decisions when it matters most. They’re not intentionally putting the players in iffy situations, but some seem to have no feel for bullpens and when to pull starters not pitching according to the back of the baseball cards.
With only one game left on the docket before the World Series starts, it’s probably alright to start criticizing every managerial move from the past two weeks. And is always the case, there was probably a lot of first guessing.
