Typically the topic of inflation riles people from both sides of the aisle, but in the case of sports, inflated numbers is apolitical. Years after historically important sporting events, attendance numbers unofficially become inflated, much like infamous transportation crashes. People who weren’t even in state somehow magically count themselves amongst those in the crowd.
Some folks convince themselves over time that they were at a specific game. I’m not sure if it’s Forrest Gump thing or psychosis. The sad thing is that the lying is usually obvious and not worth the effort.
The question of the day: five years down the road, will any Tampa Rays fan admit to being one of the (only) 19.704 fans in attendance at yesterday’s playoff loss to the Rangers? If the favored Rays lose the series, will anyone admit to witnessing the upset? Should the Rays overcome the early setback, will thousands of shameless fans jump on the attendance bandwagon?
Is this a lame boycott or lack of interest?
