Cubs top prospect, Pete Crow-Armstrong, has already made his ML debut, was caught stealing and made two spectacular catches in center, but that isn’t enough.
Manager David Ross is tasked with managing his playing time while the Cubs pursue a playoff spot. I think I read that he said, now is not the time for player development. Even though the Cubs have plenty of lumber in the lineup, they really can’t afford to give up at-bats. More importantly, center field hasn’t been a weakness this season. Cody Bellinger and Michael Tauchman have been outstanding thus far.
One would think this particular storyline would be enough to sate the local and national media’s thirst for a timely story. If you haven’t read yet, Crow-Armstrong’s parents are celebrities in their own right. God’s honest truth, I had never heard of them, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a story. I know how the media likes to focus on this more than the play on the field. Over the last decade or so, we see and hear more from the parents than we do the athletes.
The Cubs chase for the pennant and a spot in the postseason is exciting enough for me. I don’t want to have to worry about when anyone’s celeb parents are appearing on Laugh-In.
