Due to a much needed rainout last night, the White Sox are hosting the Royals in a straight doubleheader today. I’m not at the game nor would I subject myself to attending-although it’s a gorgeous day.
Editor’s note: I have two friends that might be at the game(s) today because they are terrific baseball fans. I’m sure I’ll hear from them.
Between games the first game’s attendance will become official, but I’m guessing everyone had a pretty good shot at getting their own foul ball. Johnny Beisbol pitched for both teams-winning a World Series in 2015 for the Royals and may have the most reliable starter for the 2022 Sox. He certainly was one of the most entertaining evoking memories of Luis Tiant.
With all of his spins, stops, starts, pivots, and multiple hesitations, El Tiante was said to have looked at every individual in the stands on any given start. Cueto seems to relish in emulating Luis, and this afternoon’s small crowd would provide either pitcher with the chance to connect with each fan.
It’s pretty cool to walk out with your own personal foul ball, but eye contact with a starting pitcher is an even greater connection.
