Robbing a hitter from a game-winning homer is pretty dramatic and important to a game’s outcome, but is it the most exciting play in baseball?
I think some of us slower fans like the stolen base-especially when a player steals home. That’s why Endy De La Cruz’s trifecta earlier this season had fans talking for days. Yet, I’ve heard several people suggest that either the triple or inside-the-park-homer are more entertaining. It might be the high risk/reward aspect, or it might be the weird bounces the ball takes. The batter/baserunner has to be somewhat reckless to attempt either feat. There’s also a pretty good chance that an awkward slide/collision is a possibility.
At this very moment, AL MVP and stud pitcher, Shohei Ohtani is tied for the ML lead in triples with 7. Ultimately, you have to be a pretty fair baserunner or fast guy with decent power to lead the league in triples. I don’t imagine he’s trying to lead the league in that category, but it would be another feather in his cap.
