Whether it’s recency bias or reality, it seems like more God awful teams have surprised really good teams this year. Take for example the lowly A’s who have beaten the much better Rays and Brewers. There needn’t be as dramatic a chasm between the two teams for my point to be valid.
Even before the Mets exorcised all of the evil spirits from their roster, they were pitiful. Right now they are little better than a last place AAA club. Baseball being baseball, the might Cubs lost two of three games in New York this week-after taking 2/3 from the superior Braves.
Stuff like this happens every season and this series defeat doesn’t mean the Cubs won’t make the postseason, rather it suggests the imperfect nature of the team and decision makers in the organization. We’ve been told 2,473 times that they have the greatest minds analyzing, processing and sharing their data with the players.
Note the bold face. I’m yelling like I did when they pitched to Pete Alonso.
The wacky Joe Maddon had the guts to intentionally walk Bryce Harper over ten times in the course of a Cubs-Nationals series. Even after the first 3 homers and 8 RBI, Kyle Hendricks continued to pitch to the Polar Bear. Dang, the guy has 15 homers and 34 RBI in only 27 games. And it’s not as if Kyle hasn’t been plagued by the long ball over the past few years.
They should not have lost any games to these clowns. Every game counts and it’s nice to see the manager finally managing that way and not playing favorites who aren’t producing.
There is no reason to believe the Cubs won’t demolish the Jays this weekend because that is how baseball operates.
