Ordinarily, it’s hard to get too worked up when a player announces his retirement from the game when he’s played for more than a few teams. It’s often harder to care when that player never played for your team.
I think most sports fans appreciate when a player plays for one team his entire career-regardless of the sport. Yet, there are some characters whose careers transcend the stats that so define the sport. Bartolo Colon is retiring as a NY Met and I couldn’t be happier.
