There are probably a half dozen teams that are going to trade top-to middle of the rotation starters before the trade deadline. What the heck are they waiting for, a last push? If you can convince the buyer that it’s in their best interest to have your starter for an additional three starts/wins, you should be able to improve your haul.
Furthermore, each start that guy makes for you is a potential injury waiting to happen as pitchers haven’t been the sturdiest of beasts lately. Also, do you want to chance it that the guy will stink the joint up and screw the trade?
If you have a couple guys that you’re going to flip, pushing one out the door might goose the market a bit. There are a couple guys in town that should be out the door sooner than not.
It’s more entertaining to see who fetches what on the market than to read all the predictions. The experts’ guesses don’t drive the market, no matter how much they think they do.
Should or will the Reds go out and get that established starter? Will Joey Votto continue to be a positive contributor? Will Shohei Ohtani finish the season with the Angels?

Yeah, it is much easier to predict who will leave a team than it is to predict who that team will get in return. And you know me. I don’t dabble in speculation. Just tell me what the facts are when the trade is consummated. Otherwise it is a waste of time and energy although it must be fun for some fans. We cannot guess or know what 30 GMs and 30 ownership groups are thinking. Maybe the casinos should put odds on prospective rumored trades. Your screed about trading starters sooner rather than later makes perfect sense. But some GMs who think they are smart will hold out to get the best value possible (in their opinion) and wind up saying “I should have listened to Bob Martinez.”

That’s just it-we know guessing how 30 different GM’s are going to act is impossible and that most writers are not making educated guesses. We will have to wait and then assess and hope our teams made the right decisions. Now that is a question any fan can ask and answer, do we/they trust the powers that be? You know I don’t
