Players react differently to correction. It’s really no different than how young people (in general) respond to criticism. It’s also instructive to monitor those making the corrections. Some people are vindictive or are merely power hungry.
Because I’m not a Rays fan specifically and don’t follow their every move, I won’t pretend that I knew anything about Wander Franco’s problems. However, I’ll take Kevin Cash at his word. I imagine Franco’s behavior hasn’t gone unnoticed by the fans and media in Tampa.
Not every organization the guts to sit a player of Franco’s caliber down for a spell, no matter how egregious the sins. Some front offices won’t even support the manager who made the call on the team’s behalf.
I’ll leave it to people’s imagination to figure out which local story I’m referencing. How the offending player responds is anyone’s guess, and hopefully this talented young ballplayer will learn from this episode.
