A happy day in Cincinnati, finally?

I’m sure waiting for the hot prospect to reach the Majors has existed since the 50’s, but I don’t have first hand knowledge. I do know that Elly De La Cruz is the most recent prospect to make his debut, but not quickly enough for some in the media and Cincy.

As a student of Reds prospects over the past 15 years, I’ve seen and heard about the best during this era. I hadn’t seen him since I watched the highlights this morning. The 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic is an impressive physical specimen and every part of his game ranks among the best according to StatCast. I’m going to hold back on anointing him though. Unlike past solutions, De La Cruz, might not have to save the organization by himself. Fellow rookie, Matt McLain appears to be more capable than most of the recent saviors.

I can’t be the only one that noticed De La Cruz is sporting #44-made famous by recent phenom/flop, Aristides Aquino. I’m not sure that was such a great idea although Eric Davis made the number famous a generation ago.

If things go according to plan, Jonathan India, McLain, and De La Cruz will torment the NL Central for the next decade.

  1. Hi. I really like this article that you wrote. I think the Reds are finally happy because they called up their prospect. Also, I think the Reds are happy based on where they are in the standings. Can you come to my blog and see my new recent post about yesterday’s Phillies game?
