The only thing better than being in Phily to see the Cubs whomp the Phillies is to catch the highlights on TV. Heading into last night’s game, something had to give as both teams were on losing streaks, the Cubs a five-game and Phillies 4-game.
To be clear, I’m not in the City of Conditional Love, but I did watch both blowouts. Last night’s game lasted 2:54 and today’s afternoon tilt was a little quicker (2:47). Having attended a fair number of Saturday night baseball games, I can’t think of a less enjoyable way to spend a Saturday night on the road.
Saturday afternoon games rock! There is nothing quite like sitting back for a nice dinner in a “foreign” city on a Saturday night-even Philly-a very good eating town. That the Phillies returned the favor today beating the Cubs 12-3 doesn’t matter. Late nights at the Vet or Citizen’s Banke Field are pretty miserable as you are in the middle of nowhere and walking back to your hotel isn’t an option. Yet, if you are back in center city before dinner, it’s pretty nice.
Incidentally, a Saturday afternoon game in Chicago is pretty nice too.
