I have no idea what role the new rules play in the craziness surrounding MLB this year. Predicting the weather correctly is like predicting which teams will go on a winning streak. Someone is always offering explanations for the mistakes.
As a diehard Cub fan, I’d love to say the Cubs are going to annihilate the Cardinals when they arrive in town later today. St. Louis comes to town with an 11-24 record, but that’s not the kicker. The organization is in complete turmoil-nobody has an idea of what is going on as is evidenced by their flip-flopping on the Willson Contreras blame game.
Contreras’s eventual departure from Wrigley wasn’t pleasant, but his wasn’t the first that caused trouble for everyone. I remember Kenny Williams and Maglio Ordonez having some “differences of opinion” when the latter left for Detroit.
After watching the Cubs take 2 of 3 from the Marlins this past weekend, it’s hard to figure how they got swept by them last week. I know, they could have won every game. To further make my point, they lost 3 of 4 in D.C to the pathetic Nationals.
All of this suggests that I wouldn’t be stupid enough to predict anything specific happening in this Cubs-Cards series. Forget the trends and specific matchups, anything can and will happen.
One thing is certain, the Cardinals manager, Oliver Marmol is in way over his head.
