Big news…

Earlier today the Diamondbacks designated Madison Bumgarner for assignment (DFA) which essentially means he can sign with any other team for the league minimum. Arizona still owes him plenty of money so don’t worry about him paying his bills.

Editor’s note: I’ve gone on record several times over the years as to how much I enjoyed watching the old version pitch. Madbum is one of the most dominant postseason performers in recent history. Over the course of three titles, he threw 36 innings in the WS and was 4-0 with one save and a 0.25 ERA. However, his decline began before he signed with the Diamondbacks and was a questionable signing at the time.

I decided to link to a story from Arizona so as to provide background and context. The local media has been on the story since Day 1 and management apparently is willing to part with him despite the cost. Every fanbase wishes their team would cut bait with failures despite their contracts. I’m not sure who will sign him and what he has left in the tank. I’m glad that I saw him at his best. However, I’ve never had any contact with him.
