A complete whitewashing…

I didn’t expect much from mlb.com and the White Sox associated site, but I’m still disappointed that they appear to be covering up for Mike Clevinger and his horrific, off-field domestic situation. They can’t hide behind any legal mumbo-jumbo either because Clevinger addressed the local media today in Arizona.

To their credit, both The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times ran the press conference and asked some tough questions. I heard about it this afternoon after school. He used, the legal system playing out as a dodge, but did assert his innocence just the same.

Later this afternoon, I heard some of his comments after the fact. The same radio station allowed the accuser to share her side of the story as a rebuttal to his claims earlier in the day. I didn’t listen to all the gory details as it’s none of my business. If true, the particulars are deplorable, and I believe it’s a matter for the courts/legal system. However, it is news and affects too many people not to discuss it.

Understandably and unfortunately, the White Sox have clammed up. Again, they use the law as a shield and pretend they are necessarily on the right side. When Trevor Bauer was still a member of the Reds, but in similar straits with the law, I spoke with one Reds official, off the record, that said he wasn’t that bad a guy. I’m guessing his opinion was in the minority, but I’ve yet to find anyone with the organization that’s come out in support of Bauer.

We know the marketing arm of the NFL hasn’t been very critical of the “safety issues” in the game, and has whitewashed several other big stories. I really had hoped that MLB’s stance against domestic abuse would have been stronger.

One response to “A complete whitewashing…”

  1. Go get ‘em. You will not find me defending the White Sox in this instance. As far as I am concerned he shouldn’t have been allowed to put on a uniform until the case has been adjudicated. I don’t miss hearing the sordid details from either side. Two of tonight’s sports segments off the local newscasts focused on Verlander and Scherzer and their ages. Also, Montas may be done fir the year. My heart bleeds for NYY.
