Over the past couple of weeks, the Cubs have amassed a collection of nobodies, pretending the backs of their baseball cards have content. Despite the laudatory claims, Michael Fulmer and the previously acquired Brad Boxberger are the only guys with numbers to support the lofty expectations.
We’ll see how many innings Boxberger has left in his arm and if his knowledge of the NL Central will be beneficial. Fulmer, on the other hand, has been forced to forge a new path in the bullpen. Injury concerns aside, the upside with Fulmer is more promising than most of the NRI’s the Cubs have signed.
If both guys make the 26-man roster out of camp, I’m not sure if their presence will impact the Cubs final record, but it’s a start.
