Former third baseman, Scott Rolen, was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He just inched past the requisite 75% of the ballots (76.3%). It’s funny because in 2018, he only appeared on 10.2% of the writers’ ballots.
I no longer concern myself with who gets into the Hall. They’ve let several guys in that I never believed were great, let alone the best in the game. It’ not my battle any longer.
I’m not sure if it was the baby that he pulled out of the burning building or his involvement in the new, but untested Alzheimer’s drug in the past 4.5 years. I always thought he was an excellent fielding third baseman, but not a great player.
While I don’t dismiss the new analytics out of hand when discussing HOF’ers, I’m comfortable asking myself if a guy was a great of the game. I also prefer all-around greats, or those that dominated during a length of time.
It’s nice that the two 2023 inductees aren’t tainted by the stench of PEDs.
One response to “The Hall of Fame 2023”
Agree but the voting was so odd because the next highest guy got 17% of the vote. No near misses this year. Rolen may be a Famer due to statistics and comparisons to other third sackers in the Hall but outside of 2 cities is he FAM(E) ous? Isn’t it the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Statistics? As you said, not our fight and I am not angry about the selection and at least he is not a suspected cheater.
