The Cubs finally struck gold…

The Cubs finally landed an impact free agent this year. We’ll have to wait and see if Dansby Swanson is the answer to all of our problems. If one believes the reports, a 7-year $177 million contract is quite a deal-given what the other shortstops have gotten and other free agents.

Unlike most of the past free agent acquisitions, the 28-year- old Swanson is more of a proven commodity and one that is on the upswing of his career. One of his underrated qualities is his availability. Since 2020m he’s only missed two games.

Whatever the Cubs computers say, he should slot in nicely in the #6 hole behind new centerfielder/first baseman, Cody Belinger. Over the past two seasons, Dansby has been a consistent run-producer. Too often, the teams in town have acquired position players trending in the wrong direction (see Belinger).

If the Cubs are able to sign second baseman Nico Hoerner to an extension, they’ll be strong up the gut for the next half dozen years.

There only lacking a catcher.
